Support Health Services

Every morning, the four children of Obèns and Marie Ketlène Philoxy can’t wait to head out the door and get to school at the Centre d’Etudès Lumiere de Mariani (CELM). But not today ...

All four kids – Woodemaus, 4, Orlintcha, 9, Mario, 10, and Obèns, 12 – are battling a severe case of Cholera due to contaminated water. Two of the children require hospitalization.

Unfortunately, it’s a common story for Haiti’s children.

The kids yearn to learn. But, too often, illnesses, infections, and malnourishment make it very difficult or impossible.

Woefully, ninety-two students have been identified as malnourished at CELM.

As you can imagine, it’s tough to concentrate when you’re sick and hungry.

Pastor Valcourt of CELM said recently, “All of our children desperately need basic health services and a meal a day – at the very least.”

That’s why we’re writing this letter to you. We need your help.

Something as simple as a physical and dental checkup can make all the difference in the world. It allows the team to identify health issues before they become serious or life threatening such as upper respiratory or gastrointestinal infections.

Your support means we can continue our mission to serve the “whole child,” not just through education, but with essential health services such as our physical/dental checkups, deworming and vitamin A program, basic medications, home visits with nutrition and hygiene education, plus supporting a full-time nurse for the students.

It’s Health Month at Haiti Scholars and we’re asking for a donation to help meet the health needs of our students, so they can continue to learn and grow.

Can you help us?

A gift of $30 allows a child to receive a physical checkup and a dental cleaning.

A gift of $50 provides a child with a physical/dental checkup and food kit.

A gift of $80 furnishes a child with a physical/dental checkup, a home visit, basic medications and food kit.

Without your help, Haiti Scholars can’t assist the neediest children of Mariani, Haiti. Your donation –whatever amount – is greatly appreciated and will have a profound effect.

Just ask Obnès Philoxy.

“My children have benefited greatly from all of your support, including physicals. It is very difficult for parents in Haiti to have their children visit a pediatrician because we lack the financial means. So, Haiti Scholars help is very useful to us. Thank you for all of your help. I am speechless.”

As Obnès statement clearly points out, your support makes these health services happen. More importantly, your support changes the trajectory of a student’s future – for the better.

So, please consider sending a gift of health today through the donation form below.

Thank you for supporting our mission.

Gratefully, The Health Team at Haiti Scholars
